Although the last minute holiday shopping crunch is still weeks away, Amazon is already experiencing backups that could delay orders, the company has revealed.

Among the factors causing the delays are: bad weather, a shorter period between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and more sales than usual on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Amazon officials say: "Delivery promises vary and may be longer than normal based on order volume and the fulfillment and delivery capacity available in a given area," the company says in a statement. "We will work directly with customers who are experiencing an issue with their delivery."

Amazon officials say they'll spend $1.5 billion over the holiday season to get packages out as quickly as possible. Most of that money is spent on hiring temporary help, which last year amounted to 200,000 holiday workers.
