Thirsty Thursday: Blind Wine Tasting

Thirsty Thursday: Blind Wine Tasting

Spice up a night in with friends by invoking a game of blind wine tasting.  Ask each of your guests to bring a bottle of their choosing in a paper bag.  You can be as creative as you’d like with the ground rules, but I suggest starting off with bottles under $10.  The objective of the game is to guess the varietal of each wine and to pick a crowd favorite.  If you’re looking for more structure as far a rules apply then check out this Urban Outfitters Wine Tasting Party Kit for only $9.99!  It has everything you need from notepads, to glass-markers, reusable cloth bottle covers and cheat sheets.

The main advantage of a blind wine tasting is the ability to have you and your guests assess the wines in question without any bias.  This will put all the wines being tasted on the same playing field by keeping the producer, price and even the appearance of the bottle you’ll have to taste a mystery.  You’ll be amazed at how differently a taster can describe the same wine whether they know what it is or not by formulating an opinion without any outside influences.  Kick back, relax and let the games begin!

XOXO,

Vineal
